My Latest Project

Since I have had loads of time lately, I have been working on some crafty projects. Here is my latest project. I used the purse pattern from this website http://www.made-by-rae.com/2009/02/free-buttercup-bag-sewing-pattern.html (except I added a zipper and made the purse a little bigger). I got the flower pattern from this website http://blairpeter.typepad.com/weblog/2006/03/fabric_flowers.html. I LOVE how it turned out!

Fall Photo Contest

Here in Cedar everyone is given a free copy of the local newspaper, Iron County Today. A couple weeks ago I was looking at the paper and saw an article about a Fall Photo Contest. I haven't ever entered any photo contest and thought it could be fun and perhaps good experience to enter. I almost chickened out- and not to mention fall here happens pretty close to the deadline.

I finally decided a couple of days before the deadline to go ahead and submit a couple of pictures. Today, we received the paper with the contest results. Here is the page:

Here is a close up of the results:

Ok, for those of you who can't read tiny-fine-print-sort-of-fonts... I didn't win. BUT, I did receive an Honorable Mention. I was #7 overall out of 12. Granted, I have no idea how many people actually entered the contest, but if it is anything like how many people in Cedar apply for a receptionist position (90) or for a part time, professional house cleaning job (60), then I feel pretty good about my work. :)

Around Town

Since I am still currently unemployed, I have taken the opportunity to take some pictures around the Cedar area, some from my own "backyard" even. These are my favorites:

Engagement Picture Fun

A couple weeks ago my brother-in-law Jeff and his fiance Allison asked me to take their engagement pictures. I've taken tons of pictures of my nieces, nephew, and other family members but I hadn't ever taken any engagement pictures. So this was a great and fun opportunity for me. Thanks for letting me help with the "big day!" Here are some of my favorite pictures I took.

Jeff and Allison also asked for help with designing the announcement. I thought this part was pretty fun. :) Below is the announcement that Jeff and Allie chose and the last picture is the version that is my personal favorite. Overall, I think things turned out pretty well for my first time.

Recent Happenings

In July, Johnny and I moved to Cedar City. So far we really like living here. It's SUPER quiet and the sky is blue like it should be- not gray like in Utah County. We certainly do miss living by family though!

After our move we went on a trip with Monica's family which was tons of much needed fun. Here are some of Monica's favorite pictures.

Christmas Break and Pictures

Over the Christmas break Johnny and I had lots of fun visiting many family members. I know it's already March and I'm just now getting to this post, all I have to say is we've been a little busy.

We first went down to St. George to visit my sister and her family. We had lots of fun spending a couple days with them. I forgot to bring down mine and Johnny's stockings so Erika helped me to make some new ones.

Then we went down to Vegas and visited with Johnny's sister and her family. Johnny and I had lots of fun playing with her little girls.

These pictures are some of the pictures I took on the drive down to Vegas and then down to Mesa. Yes, they may be a bit blurry, but I still think they are pretty good for taking while Johnny was driving the car.

Then we drove down to Mesa to visit my parents. Oh how I miss that warm state! Anyway... Johnny and I enjoyed just relaxing and spending time with family. While we were down in Arizona, I took advantage of the still living landscape (compared with Utah's dead and covered in snow landscapes) and took a few pictures of the beautiful flowers at the Mesa temple.

In the end of January we went back down to St. George to visit my sister after she had her baby and also for my niece's birthday. I had loads of fun trying out my new camera there with such wonderful subjects. :) Unfortunately though, I'm still trying to figure out how to use the thing. So several of the pictures weren't quite to my liking, but at least I got a couple that I liked.
